Chisel ("we," "us," "our") is a project management and customer relationship platform for general contractors, operated at getchisel.app. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create a Chisel account, we collect your name, email address, company name, and phone number. This information is used to identify your account and enable core product features.

Customer Data

Contractors using Chisel store information about their customers (homeowners/clients), including names, phone numbers, email addresses, and project details. This data is entered by the contractor and stored on their behalf.

Project & Financial Data

We store project details, milestones, photos, invoices, estimates, and expense records that contractors create within the platform. Photos are stored on our servers.

Communication Data

When SMS features are enabled, we log message content, phone numbers, timestamps, and delivery status for messages sent and received through the platform via our SMS provider (Telnyx).

Usage Data

We may collect basic usage information such as pages visited, actions taken, and browser/device type to improve the product. We do not sell this data to third parties.

3. How We Use Your Information

Provide and operate the Chisel platform
Send SMS messages on behalf of contractors to their customers (appointment reminders, project updates, invoices)
Process payments and manage subscriptions via Stripe
Send account-related emails (password resets, billing notices)
Verify customer identity via phone verification (OTP) for the customer portal
Improve and maintain the service

4. SMS Messaging

Chisel enables contractors to send SMS messages to their customers for project updates, appointment reminders, and invoice notifications. Customers opt in to receive SMS messages through a dedicated consent form or verbal/written consent recorded by their contractor. Consent is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services.

Message frequency varies based on project activity (typically 1–10 messages per month)

Customers can reply STOP at any time to opt out of SMS messages

SMS is provided via Telnyx

SMS opt-in data and consent will not be shared with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. We do not use phone numbers for marketing. SMS is only used for project-related communication between contractors and their customers.

Carriers (including T-Mobile) are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Chisel:

Telnyx — SMS messaging and phone verification
Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing
Cloudflare — DNS, CDN, and SSL

Each of these providers has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on servers located in the United States. We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), secure password hashing, and access controls to protect your information. While no system is 100% secure, we take reasonable measures to safeguard your data.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account and project data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your account, we will delete your data within 90 days unless retention is required by law.

Correct inaccurate data
Delete your account and associated data

9. Children's Privacy

Chisel is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a notice within the platform. Continued use of Chisel after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
